What Are Paddle Boards Made Of?

There are two types of paddle boards - solid and inflatable. Solid paddle boards, also known as SUPs, are made of a foam core wrapped in either fibreglass, carbon fibre and plastic. Instead of a foam core, inflatable stand-up paddle boards (iSUPs) use air to provide buoyancy and stability. Inflatable paddle boards are perfect for casual and beginner paddlers, or those with limited space to store their gear.

Choosing the Right Inflatable Paddle Board

Your weight and riding style determine the inflatable SUP you should get. It is important to consider the board’s length and width. Short boards under ten feet are more manoeuvrable and are a great choice for children. Medium-length boards around ten to twelve feet are perfect for casual and beginner paddlers. On the other end of the scale, we have the long SUP boards, and they are good for racing and touring.

Inflatable paddle boards' common width ranges from twenty-five to thirty-six inches. Wider boards are optimal for bigger people and those who want to carry cargo. Narrow SUP boards are better for smaller people and those looking for speed.
