Snowboarding
What Is Snowboarding?
Snowboarding is a popular winter sport enjoyed by many, offering an incredible opportunity to explore the mountains. Snowboarders are often seen carving their way down the slopes using a side-to-side motion and are easily recognized by their sideways stance.
While snowboarding is often practiced as a recreational sport, professional snowboarding is also prevalent. The most popular styles include alpine snowboarding, jibbing, freeriding, and freestyle snowboarding.
What Snowboarding Gear Do I Need?
The three main pieces of equipment are the snowboard, snowboard bindings, and snowboard boots.
When selecting the board and bindings, choose gear recommended for your style of snowboarding. Other important factors include your shoe size, height, and the terrain you will be snowboarding in. For expert advice, check out our guide on how to choose snowboard size.

Is Skiing or Snowboarding Easier?
For beginners, snowboarding is known to have a steeper learning curve than skiing, but once you have the basics under control, you will quickly start to progress.
For many, the biggest challenge with snowboarding is getting used to standing sideways, but this also means that skateboarders, wakeboarders, and surfers can carve with confidence pretty quickly since the stance will already feel natural to them.
One convenience of snowboarding compared to skiing is that you don’t need as much gear. Snowboard boots are also known for being more comfortable for walking than ski boots.
