What Are Scooter Decks?

Stunt scooter decks, also known as pro scooter decks, are what you stand on when you ride your scooter. How your deck feels will impact your whole scooter experience, so it is important to get one that fits your style. Modern decks are typically made out of aluminium, ensuring a durable and lightweight product. Furthermore, stunt scooter decks are non-foldable, ensuring a sturdy construction.

Choosing the Right Scooter deck

Stunt scooter decks come in various shapes and sizes, which provide different riding experiences. When getting a scooter deck you should take into account the length, the width and the weight. Deck lengths vary from around 18 inches (46 cm) to 23.5 inches (60 cm). Longer decks will naturally be more comfortable to stand on and will provide you with more leverage to pop higher. Shorter decks are better for tricks such as tailwhips, allow for easier rotations, and give you more control.

When it comes to deck widths, you are spoiled for choice. Although complete scooters will typically come with a deck width of between 4”-5” (10 cm - 12.7 cm), you will now find some aftermarket decks that are wider than 6.5” (16.5 cm). Riding a wider deck will make it easier to grind ledges and rails, while narrower decks are usually lighter. Of course, one factor to consider here is your own size. If you’re taller with bigger feet, then it makes sense to choose a wider model.

The final thing to consider is the weight. Heavier decks will be stronger, while a lighter deck will be easier for you to manipulate the scooter.

Are Scooter Decks Universal?

In short, no. When buying a deck, you need to check the individual specs to make sure that it is compatible with the rest of your parts. The parts of your scooter that you need to check for compatibility are the headset, wheels, and fork. For example, make sure that the brake and dropout can accommodate the size of your wheels.
